I Can Read! #3: The Duck Walks Slowly

Even many third and fourth grade students in Laos cannot read a single word. Often, the big stumbling block is the 'complex vowels,' in which several simple vowels combine to represent a new sound.

After they finish this book, students are able to read entire stories, which we carefully construct using only the letters they've learned so far. This helps solidify their understanding of the simple vowels, before they begin learning the complex vowels in subsequent books.
