Who else is doing literacy work like Big Brother Mouse, in other parts of the world?

One excellent organization is the Ermera Library in Timor Leste. (Also known as East Timor, this is one of the world's newest countries; it was formerly part of Indonesia.) They've translated several of our books into the local language. Three members of the staff attended our literacy workshop in March, and we learned a great deal from their presentations about techniques they are using.

They generously invited two of our staff to visit and see their work first-hand. Siphone and Sonesoulilat took advantage of the offer, and came back full of ideas.

These photos show the library (Biblioteka Ermera), the welcome for Sonesoulilat and Siphone, and some of the library activities.

Among other activities, they host a weekly radio program, with a comprehension quiz at the end; a reading program at the local hospital that shows how even parents who cannot read can look at books with their children; and a publishing program.
