Teacher workshop: Today's teachers in Laos didn't have books like ours when they were children. They probably had no books at all. They have no experience using books in class. So we're looking for ways to provide teacher training, about the new teaching opportunities that are created by fun, engaging, and educational books.

This event was sponsored by Planet Wheeler Foundation (Australia). Thank you!

We held 4 training workshops in May for graduating students at Luang Prabang's Teacher Training College.

Our primary goal was to encourage them to read storybooks aloud to their classes, to encourage interest in reading. But we had time for other activities, too. Several of our books have puzzles; in one picture here, three young women rearrange toothpicks to make a new shape. Puzzles of this sort are new for everyone here.

The day ends with each student reading aloud to a group of children. The kids each get a book of their own; the graduating students get a small gift, and a set of 70 books for their own enjoyment, and school use.
