Naly's Hmong New Year

For a Hmong girls like Naly, the New Year festival is the biggest event of the year. With colorful pictures and brief captions, she shows all the members of her family as they prepare and celebrate: Her father and uncle pound rice to make the traditional snack; her older sister cuts banana leaves, her grandfather ties the basi knots.

While it will be enjoyed by many ages and ethnic groups, this book is particularly intended to help young Hmong children who don't use the Lao language in their home, as they learn to read and speak it.
