The Hunter Who Meditated

The Khmu are the largest ethnic minority in Laos, with their own distinct culture and traditions. Many rural children speak the Khmu language with their family at home, then if they go to school, they learn Lao as a second language.

Siphone Sengvandy, who is himself Khmu, spent a year talking with Khmu elders, writing down their favorite folktales in both Khmu and Lao, then translating them into English with help from visitors. Here are seven stories that are particularly popular in Khmu villages.
